Course description:
The course introduction to Psychology is a basic course for students enrolled for humanistic studies such as nursing, sociology, Psychology, social-work, paramedical specialties, and education. The course includes core concepts and theories about human beings; their behavior and emotions. This course should be taught in the freshmen or sophomore years of education so as to build on it in the following years of studying. Introduction to Psychology is a theoretical course that lays the ground for basic concepts and prepares the learner for more advanced knowledge about human beings.
Objectives and aims:
At the end of this course the student will be able to achieve the following:-
a. Be oriented to origin and basis of human behavior, emotions, and thinking processes.
b. Understand the relationship of Psychology to others paradigms of human science
c. Understand the main theories of personality and their contributions to understanding human beings
d. Comprehend the relationship between behavior, emotions, and cognition.
e. Understand the interrelationship between behavior, environment and biological influence of human beings.
f. Understand the cognitive process of human beings that includes perception, memory, thinking, reasoning ……etc.
g. Understand self as a base for understanding others and be efficient in dealing with self and others.
h. Identify situations and life events that are difficult and stressful to human being and apply basic skills to help in adapting to them.
