This course addresses various types of trauma-specific treatment modalities with children and adults including, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Exposure Treatment, EMDR and Stage Models. Students will gain an understanding of the impact of trauma on an individual, family, groups and the community level. The class will have an opportunity to explore new best practices through lecture/discussion, video, guest speaker and experiential exercises and role play practice opportunities in class.
Course objectives:
By the end of the course the students will be able to:
1. Understand the process of working with groups, families, and communities in traumatic experiences
2. Be competent in working with traumatized people from various age groups
3. Intervene with family who experienced trauma, crisis, or disasters
4. Intervene with groups of people who experienced crisis, traumatic experiences, or disasters
5. Intervene with communities who encountered disasters and traumatic experiences
6. Help medical team and civil defense groups who have difficulties adjusting with working with traumatized people
